    Delhi as a district legal entity was recognised by the Proclamation Notification No.911 dated 17.09.1912 issued by Governor General of India in Council. By this Notification, Delhi came under the immediate authority and management of the Governor General of India in Council and Mr. William Malcolm Hailey, C.I.E., I.C.S. was appointed the first Chief Commissioner of Delhi. Simultaneously the Delhi Laws Act, 1912 was enacted for enforcing the existing laws in Delhi.

    Patiala House Courts Complex is one of the seven District Courts Complexes located near India Gate in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Patiala House Court Complex is built in an area measuring 31,872 square metres. The whole complex is divided into five parts: Main Building, Publication Building, Annexe Building, Lock-up Building and MEA Building. The complex consists of 45 Courts, 2 Family Court, Delhi Legal Services Authorities Office and various other branches and Lawyers Chambers.
